GAEA is an unstoppable force of music
There are many different musicians when walking down Venice Beach, but GAEA seems to be the most popular musicians there. Every time I would walk by them there was always a crowd around the duo applauding and putting money into their cello case. Cherita and Martin a couple that met at a party and just started to play together when a friend came up to them asking, "Are you guys in a band together?" After the couple was asked the question, they looked at each other said no at first, but then decided that they should just team up together. Since Cherita and Martin teamed up they seem to be an unstoppable force. When I spoke to Cherita she talked about her first album without Martin and then second one with Martin. She talked about how when she started playing with Martin her music seemed to have taken a whole new identity and it was defiantly for the better.
Cherita has been working with Rami Jaffee, a keyboard player, who has worked with a multitude of artists such as the Foo Fighters, Fefe Dobson, Macy Gray, Jason Castro, The Daylights, The Wallflowers and many more. Rami Jaffee has helped GAEA record their CD's and publish their albums as well. Right now, since Jaffee is on tour with the Foo Fighters, GAEA has taken a break from recording and they're just going to different college towns to get their name out there without conforming to today's music.
Cherita and Martin have started they're own record company so they won't have to join another record label and have to change the sound of their music. Cherita and Martin are also very down to earth people. With the CD's they have come out with they only ask for $5-10 donation for one of their CD's. But, if somebody doesn't have the money or can't afford the CD, GAEA is willing to work with them or give the CD to them for free. For example, there's a rehabilitation clinic on the streets of Venice and since they're not allowed to talk to the people on the streets GAEA leaves their CD's on the porch.
When GAEA performs sometimes they make things up right on the spot and some of the stuff is all from their CD's. GAEA plays all up and down California, mainly on the coast and in college towns. But they are amazing and truly a talent that will be able to make a dent into the music world and be able to bring Janice Joplin and Stevie Nicks back into the main stream.
